The
Nantahala Racing Club hosts a Thanksgiving Camp every year for club
athletes. In the past, the club has traveled to Maryland to train
at the Dickerson site but since the US National Whitewater Center
opened, we have stayed in Charlotte. This camp was roughly a week
long so we had plenty of time to do vigoruos workouts.
The
athletes that participated in the camp were Austin Kieffer, Rick
Powell, Eric Hurd, Zach Lokken, James Wade, and myslef. We started
the week with some easier workouts to warm up but as the week progressed
we started training harder and harder. And thanks to USA Canoe/Kayak
and the US National Whitewater Center, we were able to do these
workouts on whitewater which made our camp way more enjoyable.
For
me, this camp was very beneficial as it was one of the hardest training
weeks I have ever done. Although the weather was rough, I think
everyone enjoyed training together. Now, the next major training
camp will be in Lake Placid at the begining of January. Lake Placid
is an olympic training site mostly for winter sports where many
canoe/kayak athletes will participate in cross country skiing and
other athletic activities.
