The
first training camp of this year was Lake Placid, NY. There was
no kayaking, just cross country and downhill skiing, plus some gym
workouts and team games. The week of training started off by some
easy cross country sessions which I made hard due to my great lack
of skill. There was no doubt that I struggled on the skies the first
couple of days but after some practice I finally got the hang of
it.
The
twelve of us, mostly junior and senior team athletes, worked together
in the gym and in groups when we went skiing. Also, everyday before
dinner we had a streching session which helped me greatly in getting
more loose and relaxing all my tight muscles. After dinner we usually
played some team basketball until everyone was out of energy.
In
summary, this was a great week of training to start of my new year's
season. All the bloodwork and body measurments conducted at the
training center gave me a good idea what I need to work on in my
training and also in my diet. I had a lot of fun and enjoyed my
time with all the other athletes. And I think next year will be
even better now that I know the basics of cross country skiing!
