03.02.2011 - A Winning Start to 2011
The Glacierbreaker was the first race of the season and it was a great success for me. It is the first time in my career that I have placed 1st in the Senior and Junior class at this race. I was very close to the podium last year with a 4th place finish so I am happy to say that this I did significantly better. I believe that being less nervous helped me do well at this race. It is a very small race and I have gotten used to it being at the beginning of every year. My first run was the winning one with a time of 94.86 seconds and no penalties. This felt like an descent time but there were a couple mistakes that cost me time. My second run was supposed to be focused on fixing those mistakes but unfortunately it did not go so well. I hit two gates at the top of the course and everything went downhill from there. Happily, my first run kept me in the lead and that's all that matters in the end. It was a good start for me and mainly I was just happy to be on moving water again. Almost my whole fall and winter has been marked by training on a flat lake and in the gym. It feels great to finally transfer all of the work from the past couple months into a competitive mode. I have posted the results up and I have some pictures soon to come.
